Try the Loading Fix Before Starting Over
Moon Sweepers patch 1.0.3 fixed the loading problem that made some heavily cleaned bases appear corrupted even though their save files were intact. Install the update and try loading your existing world before deleting it or starting over. The developer says those affected large worlds now load normally again.
Find and Preserve the Windows Save Folder
On Windows, SteamDB identifies the save location from the game's Steam Cloud configuration. This is an inferred file location rather than a developer-published manual restoration procedure. Use it to find the MoonSessions directory and preserve a separate copy before attempting any manual replacements.
| Folder | Windows location |
|---|---|
| MoonSessions | %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/DragDropGames/MoonSweepers/MoonSessions |
Copy the entire MoonSessions directory rather than guessing which individual file matters. Keep that preserved copy separate from any files you experiment with. If you later need help recovering the world, you will still have the original directory available instead of only the results of your attempted repair.
Retry Your World With Automatic Recovery
- Copy the entire MoonSessions directory to a separate location. This preserves your existing files before you consider any manual replacement.
- Install the Moon Sweepers update containing patch 1.0.3. This gives the game the corrected loading behavior for affected heavily cleaned worlds.
- Load the affected world in the updated game. The developer describes automatic repair during loading from a backup or recent snapshot, so give that recovery process a chance before changing files yourself.
- Read any repair message the game displays. The game reports when something needed repair, helping you recognize that recovery occurred.
- Inspect your cleaned terrain and base after the world opens. Compare them with what you remember before continuing with major construction or cleanup.
How the Save Protection Works
The developer describes protection during both loading and saving. A damaged save is repaired automatically as it loads, using its backup or a recent snapshot. Every save is also checked before it replaces the previous one, and the game displays a message if repair was necessary.
The heavily cleaned-world fix and damaged-save recovery address different situations. In the affected large worlds described by the patch, the files were already intact; the loading problem made them look corrupted. Automatic recovery instead uses a backup or snapshot to repair a damaged save, without promising that every possible damaged file can be restored.
If Your World Still Will Not Open
- Keep your separate MoonSessions copy untouched if loading still fails. Seek help from DragDrop Games with the failure details before replacing or deleting the world you want to recover.
- If a repair message appears and the world opens, check the recovered state before resuming a long session. The message reports that repair occurred; use your inspection to decide whether you are ready to continue.
- Treat poor visibility separately from a world that cannot load. A dark starting area is not necessarily a broken save: an early gameplay run began in darkness and daylight arrived naturally later.
